THEME = recreation: featuring Alabama & Tennessee Ernie Ford
2 songs from the 10p-10:30p timeframe of my 04/28/2006 radio show….

During this show, I had several requests for this song by this Fort Payne AL group. The time I most-remember hearing it was during a drive back to college after getting sick at the end of a break. I opted to go ahead & drive back, figuring if I didn’t go then, I wouldn’t go for a while. About an hour into the drive, I heard this song & knew I’d made the correct decision. As much as I remember hearing it on the radio, it didn’t do well on the charts. It debuted 12/25/1993, spent just 6 weeks on the charts & peaked at #51 in early 1994. During the band’s career mid 1977 to early 2011, they notched 33 chart toppers.

Bet it would be difficult to find someone who has NOT heard this song. It originally hit the airwaves 11/12/1955 & spent 21 weeks on the country charts, 10 of those at #1; it crossed over & claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 8 weeks. This Fordtown TN native worked as a DJ & played “Cousin Ernie” in 3 episodes of “I Love Lucy”. During his career early 1949 to mid 1976, he notched 2 other chart toppers & 14 additional Top 10 tunes.
