CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

THEME = recreation: featuring Johnny Horton & Terri Gibbs

2 songs from the 8p-8:30p timeframe of my 04/28/2006 radio show….

#1
During my radio shows, I preferred to spin the “less popular” tunes because those sometimes spark more memories. However, songs like this are “must play”. This singer-songwriter-guitarist is known as “The Singing Fisherman” & married Billie Jean Horton (Hank Williams’ widow) 09/26/1953; his death in a car accident 11/05/1960 made her a 2-time widow. This song debuted 04/27/1959 & spent 21 weeks on the country charts, 10 of those at #1; it crossed over & claimed #1 for 6 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition, it won the Song Of The Year, Country Record & Hall Of Fame Grammys.

#2
This singer-songwriter-pianist was blind since birth. Considered a 1-hit wonder since only 1 of her 13 releases late 1980 to late 1987 reached the Top 10, she won the CMA Horizon Award in 1981. This song, that Top 10, hit the airwaves 10/11/1980, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #8. This single crossed over & notched at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
