Day 8, 09/12/2009, of my Route 66 road trip started in Moriarty NM & ended in Holbrook AZ, with notable stops in Zuxax NM, Albuquerque NM, Rio Puerco NM, Budville NM, Acoma NM, Grants NM, Thoreau NM, Continental Divide, Gallup NM & Sanders AZ. Timing is everything; unfortunately, I was forced to miss many of the main attractions within Albuquerque due to the New Mexico State Fair Parade. When detour signs forced me off Route 66, I stopped in an office building complex parking lot, compared my atlas detailed map of Albuquerque with the maps in the Route 66 EZ Guide & was able to maneuver back to Route 66 just west of “Old Towne”. Showers were hit & miss as I continued west. When I arrived at the Continential Divide, before I could get out of the car, it POURED rain. So, I waited & ~15 minutes later, it stopped. A few more stops later & I was on the eastern edge of Holbrook AZ, where I visited Stewarts Rock Shop (I-40, Exit 303, Adamana Rd) & spotted 3 Chevettes, 2 of which are pictured here:
Once I arrived in Holbrook, I checked into the Wigwam Motel & snapped some interior & exterior photos while waiting for friends to arrive. We then met Rodger Fox & his motorcycle “Ride For The Relay” group.
