THEME = Remake Wednesday: original (John Anderson) & cover (Mark Chessnut)
Today’s feature is “Down In Tennessee”.
#1
John Anderson, an Orlando FL-native singer-songwriter-guitarist, worked construction on the new Grand Ole Opry building & as a staff writer with Gallico Music. Despite releasing songs continuously late 1977 to late 2000, many consider him to have 2 distinct careers, 1 in the early 1980s (with 3 chart toppers) & the 2nd in the early 1990s (with 2 chart toppers). His original version of this song came between those 2 streaks. Debuting 11/16/1985, this single spent 22 weeks on the charts & peaked at #12 in early 1986.
#2
Mark Chesnutt, a Beaumont TX-native singer-songwriter-guitarist, released his version of this song 06/17/1995; it spent 17 weeks on the charts & peaked at #23. It was an anomaly for him at the time; his career had started with 12 straight Top 10s, mid 1990 to early 1994, sparked by 1990’s “Too Cold At Home” (#3, 3 weeks) & including such favorites as 1992’s “I’ll Think Of Something” (#1) & 1993’s “Almost Goodbye” (#1).
