On a somber note, today is the 100th anniversary of the Eastland disaster, Saturday, 07/24/1915, Chicago IL. 844 people died (including 22 entire families) when the “Speed Queen Of The Great Lakes” rolled over into the Chicago River at the Clark Street Bridge dock before it left for Western Electric’s 5th annual employee picnic.
