CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

THEME = recreation: featuring CW McCall & David Allan Coe

2 songs from the 9p-9:30p timeframe of my 04/14/2006 radio show….

#1
Ever been scared by a song? Every time I hear this, I am reminded of a dark-of-the-moon night during which we were traveling to see relatives in Pennsylvania. Back then, we’d leave after Dad’s city softball game Friday night & drive straight through. 1 of those trips, this song came on the radio & my young mind thought the trucks behind us were the convoy! This Audubon IA-native singer-songwriter was working for an advertising agency when he created the CW McCall character; in the early 1980s, he was elected mayor of Ouray CO. This song debuted 11/29/1975 & spent 15 weeks on the country charts, 6 of those at #1 in early 1976. It crossed over & claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

#2
This Akron OH-native singer-songwriter-guitarist also acted in several movies, including ‘Take This Job & Shove It’, ‘The Last Days Of Frank & Jesse James’ & ‘Stagecoach’. This song debuted 03/19/1983, spent 19 weeks on the charts & peaked at #4. Of 30 other releases (late 1974 to mid 1987), only 2 reached the Top 10: 1975’s “You Never Even Called Me By My Name” (#8) & 1984’s “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile” (#2).
