CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

THEME = Remake Wednesday: original (Charly McClain) & cover (Alan Jackson)

Today’s feature is “Who’s Cheatin’ Who”. Guess which version is my favorite!?

#1 (original)
Charly McClain is a Jackson TN-native singer-songwriter who 1st recorded this song. Debuting 11/29/1980, this single (her 14th overall release) spent 17 weeks on the charts & claimed #1 in early 1981, becoming her 1st chart topper & 2nd Top 10, behind 1978’s “That’s What You Do To Me” (#8) & 1980’s “Men” (#7). This song sparked a string of 6 straight Top 10s, including “Sleepin’ With The Radio On” (#4).

#2 (cover)
Alan Jackson is a Newnan GA-native singer-songwriter-guitarist (& former car salesman & construction worker) who recorded this song & released it 04/12/1997; his version spent 20 weeks on the charts, 2 of those at its peak of #2. At the time, it was his 25th Top 10, with all but 2 of those reaching the Top 5. During his career (spanning late 1989 to today), he has also covered “Mercury Blues”, “It Must Be Love” & others.
