CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

THEME = recreation: featuring Vince Gill & Marie Osmond

2 songs from the 8p-8:30p timeframe of my 04/14/2006 radio show….

#1
Vince Gill is a Norman OK-native singer-songwriter-guitarist who was a member of Pure Prairie League (1979-1983) & married Amy Grant 03/10/2000; he has appeared on ABC’s “Nashville” a few times. This song (which I have on vinyl!) debuted 05/02/1987, spent 21 weeks on the charts & peaked at #5, his 1st Top 5 & 3rd Top 10, behind 1985’s “If It Weren’t For Him” (#10; with Rosanne Cash) & 1985-6’s “Oklahoma Borderline” (#9). His career took off in the early-mid 1990s with 5 chart toppers during that stretch.

#2
Back in the mid 1980s, we (Mom, Dad, sister & I) saw many artists at the then-popular sound stage at the Kane (IL) County Fair, including Alabama & this entertainer, Marie Osmond. A native of Ogden UT, Osmond co-hosted a TV series with her brother, Donny, 1976-1978, then hosted her own TV series 1980-1981, & starred in the short-lived 1995 TV series “Maybe This Time”, which also featured Betty White & Craig Ferguson. When Osmond performed at the KCF, she planned to have this video playing while she sang, but technical difficulties prevented that. I was disappointed because I wanted to see which Cadillac Seville model they used! This single debuted 12/27/1986, spent 18 weeks on the charts & peaked at #14. Her singing career spanned 1973-1995, sparked by her debut single, 1973’s “Paper Roses” which claimed #1 for 2 weeks on the country charts & notched at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. She had 3 more country chart toppers.
