This song was written by Neil Diamond, Alan Bergman & Marilyn Bergman as the theme song for the syndicated TV series “All That Glitters”; however, when Norman Lear changed the show’s concept, the song was no longer appropriate. So, Diamond expanded the song & released it in 1977. Then, in early 1978, Barbra Streisand covered it. This single was not intended to be a duet, but when Gary Guthrie, then program director at WAKY-AM (Louisville KY), spliced the 2 solo tracks together as a going away present to his wife (for their divorce), a worldwide media buzz ensued from “Good Morning America” to ‘People’ magazine. With interest in the duet growing, Columbia Records brought the pair into separate studios to record an official version, October 1978. 2 months later, this now-famous duet version claimed #1 for 2 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Other personalities credited with creating other duet versions include Roy Leonard & Peter Marino (WGN-AM, Chicago IL) & Jack Hood & Gene Kruszewski (WJR-AM, Detroit MI).

Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson wrote & performed this song for McCartney’s album ‘Pipes Of Peace’. While this song was released 10/03/1983, this wasn’t the pair’s 1st collaboration. ~1 year earlier, the duo had #2 hit with “The Girl Is Mine”, a duet from Jackson’s album ‘Thriller’. This single, tho, claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 6 weeks; it also reached #2 on the R&B chart. Internationally, it hit #1 in Canada, Norway & Sweden, while reaching the Top 10 of 7 other charts. The video, directed by Bob Giraldi, was filmed in Santa Ynez Valley CA & features appearances by Linda McCartney, LaToya Jackson & Giraldi; it also is credited for introducing dialogue & storylines into music videos.
