Johnny Cash is a Kingsland AR-native singer-songwriter-guitarist. Known as “The Man In Black”, he doesn’t require much of an introduction, if any at all. You just know who he is: member of the US Air Force (1950-1954), own TV show (ABC, 1969-1971), husband of June Carter, actor, member of Highwaymen. This song hit the airwaves 04/10/1976 & spent 15 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1. It crossed over & peaked at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Incredibly, despite his distinguished & legendary career, this song was just 1 of 3 country chart toppers in the 1970s for him. The other 2? 1970’s “Sunday Morning Coming Down” (2 weeks) & 1970-1’s “Flesh & Blood” (from the movie ‘I Walk The Line’ starring Gregory Peck).

#2
This Quincy FL-native singer-songwriter-guitarist attended college in Decatur MS on a basketball scholarship. This song debuted 05/23/1992, spent 20 weeks on the charts & peaked at #4. It was his 5th straight Top 5 to start his career. Perhaps an under-rated artist, he never enjoyed a solo chart topper. He notched 8 Top 5 tunes, with 3 more reaching the Top 10. His only #1 tune came as part of Kenny Rogers’ “Buy Me A Rose” (1999-2000).
