CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

THEME = recreation: 1st 4 songs, 04/07/2006 radio show, starting ~8p US central

Interspersed with the double play & other themes will be recreations (of sorts) of the radio shows I hosted. We kick it off with the 1st 4 songs [from Alabama, C Carter, J Duncan & Fastball] I played on my 1st show on WRMN. (FYI, the 1st ever song I played on WBKE, my college radio station, was Alabama’s “Song Of The South”.)

#1
Alabama formed as Young Country in 1969, changed to Wild Country in 1972 & became Alabama (officially) in 1977. This song debuted 05/14/1983, spent 17 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1; it crossed over & reached #38 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the country genre, it was the band’s 2nd straight chart topper & 10th overall #1.

#2
Carlene Carter is a Madison TN-native who is the daughter of June Carter & Carl Smith. This song debuted 10/27/1990, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #3 in early 1991. This single was 1 of only 3 Top 10s she notched; the other 2 were 1990’s “I Fell In Love” (#3) & 1993’s “Every Little Thing” (#3, 2 weeks).

#3
Johnny Duncan is a Dublin TX-native, related to Brady Seals, Dan Seals & Troy Seals; he worked as a DJ on WAGG (Franklin TN). This song debuted 10/02/1976 & spent 17 weeks on the charts, 2 of those at #1. It was his 1st chart topper; Janie Fricke provides backing vocals.

#4
Fastball (originally called Magneto USA) formed in Austin TX in 1995. This gospel-influenced rock ballad hit the airwaves in 1999 from their album ‘All The Pain Money Can Buy’; it peaked at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
