Remember this series!?
“Murphy Brown” originally aired on CBS, 11/14/1988 to 05/18/1998. It starred Candice Bergen (Murphy), Charles Kimbrough (anchor Jim Dial), Joe Regalbuto (reporter Frank Fontana), Grant Shaud (executive producer Miles Silverberg), Faith Ford (reporter Corky Sherwood), Pat Corley (bar owner Phil) & Robert Pastorelli (painter Eldin); also featured throughout the series were Jay Thomas (Jerry Gold), Colleen Dewhurst (Avery, Murphy’s Mom), Scott Bakula (reporter Peter Hunt), Jane Leeves (Audrey, Miles’ girlfriend; her move to “Frasier” ended her relationship with Miles), Robin Thomas (Murphy’s ex-husband Jake Lowenstein), Garry Marshall (network president Stan Lansing), Marcia Wallace (secretary Carol Kester). After Shaud left the series, Lily Tomlin (executive producer Kay Carter-Shepley) replaced him. During the show’s 1991-2 (4th) season, Murphy chose to have a baby, sparking controversy, including a feud with Vice President Dan Quayle, who criticized the character. The nature of his speech allowed the show to use actual footage in the 5th season opener; the show had previously blurred fact & fiction with journalists Katie Couric, Joan Lunden, Paula Zahn & Connie Chung guest-appearing.
