CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

SPOTLIGHT = Gary Stewart (1 song) & Stone Sour (1 song)

A Jenkins KY native & a band from Des Moines IA….

#1
Gary Stewart is a Jenkins KY-native singer-songwriter-guitarist. In the early 1960s, he was a member of the rock groups the Tomcats & the Amps. This song, his 4th overall country release, is his only chart topper; it debuted 03/08/1975, spent 13 weeks on the charts & claimed #1. Of ~30 total releases late 1973 to early 1989, only 5 more reached the Top 15: 1974’s “Drinkin’ Thing” (#10), 1974-5’s “Out Of Hand” (#4), 1975’s “You’re Not The Woman You Use To Be” (#15), 1976’s “In Some Room Above The Street” (#15) & 1976-7’s “Your Place Or Mine” (#11). He committed suicide 12/16/2003.

#2
Stone Sour formed in Des Moines IA in 1992, performed 5 years, then disbanded in 1997. After the band reunited in 2000, the band achieved mainstream success. In 2002, the band released their 1st studio album; from that self-titled album, this song (my favorite of theirs) was released as the 2nd single, 03/03/2003, ~2 months after my 01/06/2003 open heart surgery (3rd). This song peaked that year at #56 on the Billboard Hot 100, #4 on the Modern Rock Tracks & #2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. Later successful songs for the band include 2006’s “Through The Glass” & 2010’s “Say You’ll Haunt Me”.
