A drought ended Saturday, 06/06/2015: the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred horse racing! For the 1st time in 37 years, 1 horse (American Pharoah) won all 3 Saturday races:
Kentucky Derby [Churchill Downs, Louisville KY], 05/02/2015, by 1 length
Preakness Stakes [Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore MD], 05/16/2015 by 7 lengths
Belmont Stakes [Belmont Park, Elmont NY], 06/06/2015, by 5.5 lengths
11 prior horses won the Triple Crown, the last 2 back-to-back [Seattle Slew (1977) & Affirmed (1978)], after Secretariat took it in 1973, the 1st TC winner in 25 years.
I watched the race on Saturday. Pretty impressive. Wonder if it will be another 37 years before we see another winner or if a horse will win next year like last time.
I watched it, too … kinda exciting to watch history! That’d be cool if we’d get a back-to-back TC; heck we had 3 in the 1970s, but none in the 1950s or 1960s!
