A band from Oxnard CA & a Scottish band….

#1
Primitive Radio Gods traces its history back to the band I-Rails, based in Oxnard CA. Current PRG members include Chris O’Connor, Tim Lauterio & Luke McAuliffe. PRG is considered a ‘1-hit wonder’ band, thanks to this song, released June 1996 from their album ‘Rocket’. This single (which includes a sample of BB King’s “How Blue Can You Get” in the chorus) became a popular radio hit, peaking at #2 in Canada & #10 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. After being featured in the movie ‘The Cable Guy’, the song claimed #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

#2
Proclaimers is a Scottish band featuring identical twin brothers Charlie & Craig Reid. While they’ve enjoyed success in England & Ireland with Top 10 tunes like 1987’s “Letter From America” & 1990’s “King Of The Road”, they are considered a ‘1-hit wonder’ in the United States, thanks to this song, which they wrote. Originally released August 1988 from their album ‘Sunshine On Leith’, this single peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #8 on the Alternative Songs charts in 1993, due to its use in the movie ‘Benny & Joon’. Internationally, it claimed #1 in Australia & New Zealand while notching at #14 in Ireland & #11 in England. It also reached the Top 10 in Austria (#5) & Canada (#4).
