Do you remember this series? Like “NewsRadio” (featured last week), “SportsNight” was a favorite of mine that deserved more viewers & more seasons. Created by Aaron Sorkin, it aired 2 seasons (1998-2000, ABC). It followed “Spin City” in the lineup & at least 1 episode crossed over, with “Spin City” characters watching “SportsNight” at the end & that clip being the start of “SportsNight”.
The series is a semi-fictional account of ESPN “SportsCenter”’s Keith Olbermann & Dan Patrick team; many of Casey’s story lines were inspired by Craig Kilborn (“SportsCenter” anchor, mid 1990s). The cast included Robert Guillaume (“Soap” & “Benson”), Felicity Huffman (“Desperate Housewives” & “American Crime”), Peter Krause (“Cybill”, “6 Feet Under” & “Parenthood”), Josh Charles (“The Good Wife”), Joshua Malina (“The West Wing” & “Scandal”), Sabrina Lloyd (“Sliders”), Brenda Strong (“Desperate Housewives” & “Dallas”) & William H Macy (“Spencer: For Hire”, “ER” & “Shameless”). The following clip brilliantly illustrates the range of this series:
