Mike & The Mechanics is an English band formed in 1985 as a side project of Mike Rutherford, a founding member of the band Genesis. This song, written by Rutherford, was released as a single 02/03/1986 & reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #7 on the Adult Contemporary charts later that year. This single also notched in the Top 10 in Australia (#8), Canada (#10) & Ireland (#1). The band’s other 2 Top 10s in the United States were 1985’s “Silent Running” & 1989’s “The Living Years”.

Milli Vanilli was a West German-based R&B, pop & dance project created by Frank Marian in Munich in 1988, fronted by Fab Morvan & Rob Pilatus. Late 1980s success turned to infamy in the early 1990s when their Best New Artist Grammy Award was stripped after Chuck Philips revealed the lead vocals were not provided by Morvan & Pilatus. This song was released 07/13/1989 from the band’s album ‘Girl You Know It’s True’; this single claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 & notched at #13 on the Dance Music & #27 on the Adult Contemporary charts. Elsewhere, it reached the Top 10 of 9 other charts: Australia (#5), Austria (#8), Belgium (#6), Canada (#3), Germany (#3), Netherlands (#2), New Zealand (#3), Spain (#8) & Sweden (#6). The band had 4 other Top 10s: 1988’s “Girl You Know It’s True”, 1988’s “Baby Don’t Forget My Number”, 1989’s “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You” & 1990’s “All Or Nothing”.
