Bobby Helms is a Bloomington IN-native singer-guitarist. This song, his 1st release, debuted 03/30/1957 & spent 52 weeks on the country charts, 4 of those at #1. The follow-up release, 1957’s “My Special Angel”, also claimed #1 for 4 weeks on the country charts; it crossed over & reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Only 2 of 10 more releases cracked the Top 10 of the country charts: 1958’s “Just A Little Lonesome” (#10) & 1958’s “Jacqueline” (#5; from the movie ‘The Case Against Brooklyn’). He died of emphysema, 06/19/1997.

Though his mainstream singer-songwriter career spanned 4 years, he is regarded as 1 of the most influential electric guitarists in history & 1 of the most-celebrated 20th century musicians. This song was originally written & recorded by Bob Dylan; technically released by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Hendrix’s version hit the airwaves late 1968 from the album ‘Electric Ladyland’ & reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100, his only Top 20 entry on that chart.
