An English duo & a band from Palo Alto CA….
#1
Go West is an English duo that formed in 1982 by Peter Cox & Richard Drummie. This song (written by Cox, Drummie & Martin Page) was originally released in 1990 from the soundtrack to the film ‘Pretty Woman’ & later included on the duo’s 4th studio album, 1992’s ‘Indian Summer’. This single peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 (their only Top 10 there) & #7 on the Adult Contemporary charts. Internationally, it reached #6 in Australia, #24 in New Zealand, #20 in Sweden & #18 in England. Other familiar tunes include 1985’s “We Close Our Eyes” & 1992’s “Faithful”.
#2
Grateful Dead formed in 1965 in Palo Alto CA; known for its unique & eclectic style (blending rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, jazz), they are considered pioneers in the jam band world. This song, released in 1987 from their album ‘In The Dark’, was 1st performed as an encore at the Capital Centre (Landover MD), 09/15/1982. This single technically puts the band in the ‘1-hit wonder’ category, being their only multi-chart successful song; it peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 & claimed #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The band has released a variety of albums, including series labeled ‘Road Trips’ & ‘Dave’s Picks’.
King of Wishful Thinking is one of my all time favorite songs!
