#1
Watch the video for the vehicles! This song, her debut release, hit the airwaves 05/18/1991 & spent 20 weeks on the charts, 2 of those at #1. It sparked a string of 6 straight Top 10s to start her career, followed immediately by 1991’s “Like We Never Had A Broken Heart” (#4), 1991-2’s “That’s What I Like About You” (#8) & 1992’s “The Woman Before Me” (#4).

#2
Debuting 08/08/1992, this song spent 20 weeks on the charts & reached #5, becoming her 5th straight Top 10 to start her career. The last in the string of 6 straight Top 10s was 1992-3’s “Walkaway Joe” (with Don Henley). Neither of her 1st 2 releases in 1993 cracked the Top 10: “You Say You Will” (#12) & “Down On My Knees” (#19) … both could have.

This song was the theme of my radio shows, both in college & on Elgin IL’s WRMN, & inspires the tagline for Old Cars, Strong Hearts: “memories, even if the whole world has forgotten”. [You can see the playlists of the WRMN “CD Showcase” editions by going to the home page & clicking on the “Radio Shows” tab-pages.] This single debuted 10/16/1993, spent 20 weeks on the charts & peaked at #2. Perhaps I’m biased, but this should’ve been a chart topper. Her next 2 releases, both in 1994, failed to crack the Top 20: “Better Your Heart Than Mine” (#21) & “I Fall To Pieces” (#72; with Aaron Neville; won Vocal Collaboration Grammy).

#4
After 1994’s “XXX’s & OOO’s” claimed #1 for 2 weeks, this song became her next chart topper; debuting 01/14/1995, it spent 20 weeks on the charts, 2 of those at #1. Between the 2 chart toppers was 1994-5’s “It Wasn’t His Child”, which stalled at #60. After this single, she released 3 more songs in 1995, 2 of which reached the Top 25: “You Can Sleep While I Drive” (#23; written by Melissa Etheridge) & “I Wanna Go Too Far” (#9).

#5
This song, 1 of 2 releases in 1996, hit the airwaves 11/09/1996, spent 20 weeks on the charts & peaked at #3 in early 1997. The other 1996 release, “Believe Me Baby”, had claimed #1 for 2 weeks. Her 1st release in 1997, “I Need You”, notched at #36. Bet many people can relate to this song….

#6
Arguably her most-known single, this song debuted 06/07/1997, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #2. Released from the soundtrack of the movie ‘Con Air’ (starring Nicolas Cage), this song crossed over & reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This single also won the Country Female Vocal Grammy. Her very next release, 1997’s “In Another’s Eyes”, a duet with then future & current husband Garth Brooks, also peaked at #2 (2 weeks) on the country charts & won the Country Vocal Collaboration Grammy.

After late 1990s success with 1998’s “A Perfect Love” (#1, 2 weeks), 1998’s “There Goes My Baby” (#2), 1998-9’s “Powerful Thing” (#6) & 1999’s “I’ll Still Love You More” (#10), this song became her last Top 10; it debuted 04/07/2001, spent 31 weeks on the country charts & reached #4; it crossed over & peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
