CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT = Whitesnake (3 songs)

This group formed in England in 1978 by David Coverdale, following his departure from his previous band, Deep Purple.

#1
This song, written by Coverdale, was released April 1981 as the lead single from their 4th studio album ‘Come An’ Get It’. Peaking at #17, it was their 2nd Top 20 in England, behind 1980’s “Fool For Your Loving” (#13). Through the mid 1980s, the band released 2 more albums, but none of the singles from those albums reached England’s Top 20.

#2
Originally released from their 1982 album ‘Saints & Sinners’, the song was re-recorded for their self-titled 1987 album, becoming an international smash. In England, it peaked at #9; in the United States, it claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while notching at #4 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Elsewhere, it claimed #1 in Canada & reached #5 in Netherlands, #7 in Ireland, #17 in Belgium, #24 in Australia, #29 in Germany & #34 in New Zealand. It is one of those songs I identify with, almost too well.

#3
Successful hits in the late 1980s included 1987’s “Is This Love”, 1987’s “Still Of The Night” & 1989’s “Fool For Your Loving” (re-recording). This power ballad, their 1st release in 1990, is the 2nd single from their 1989 album ‘Slip Of The Tongue’; it peaked at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #4 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. It also reached #35 in England. Their last Top 20 on any chart was the follow-up, 1990’s “Now You’re Gone” (#15 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart).
