This Nashville TN-native singer-songwriter-guitarist was born Ellen Muriel Deason & became known as “The Queen Of Country Music”. She was a member of the “Louisiana Hayride”, 1948-1951. She died of a stroke 07/16/2012.

After a pair of duets with Red Foley returned her to the Top 10 (1955’s “As Long As I Live”, #3, & 1955’s “Make Believe”, #6), she released this song 03/12/1955; it spent 28 weeks on the charts, 15 of those at its peak of #2. The song that blocked it from the top of the charts was Webb Pierce’s “In The Jailhouse Now”, which spent 21 weeks at #1. For Wells, 2 more Top 10s followed in 1955: “Whose Shoulder Will You Cry On” (#7) & “There’s Poison In Your Heart” (#9).
