This Welsh singer was born Gaynor Hopkins & is often referred to as the “International 1st Lady Of Rock”. Her distinctive husky voice, often compared to Rod Stewart & Kim Carnes, is a result of a mid 1970s operation to remove vocal nodules.

Released in 1977, this song became her international breakthrough hit. In the United States, it peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, #10 on the Adult Contemporary & #10 on the country charts. After releasing no new music in 1982, she returned to the top of the charts with the 1st release from her 5th album, 1983’s ‘Faster Than The Speed Of The Night’. This song hit the airwaves in early 1983 & claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as in 7 other countries: Australia, Canada (2 charts), Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa & England.

This song debuted 04/13/1984 from the soundtrack to the movie ‘Footloose’. She later included it on her 1986 album ’Secret Dreams & Forbidden Fire’; it also appeared on several TV series, including “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman”, “Cold Case” & “Smallville”. On the charts, the single peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100, while notching at #19 in Canada, Germany, Austria & Sweden. It peaked at #2 in England & claimed #1 in Ireland.
