ARTIST SPOTLIGHT = Travis Tritt (6 songs)

This Marietta GA-native singer-songwriter-guitarist began singing in Atlanta GA nightclubs in 1981; 8 years later, he notched his 1st Top 10 with his 1st release.

#1
This song debuted 02/24/1990, spent 26 weeks on the charts & claimed #1, his 1st chart topper & 2nd in a string of 3 straight Top 10s to start his career. His debut release, 1989’s “Country Club”, had peaked at #9. This single was followed by 1990’s “I’m Gonna Be Somebody” (#2). On a personal note, this song was playing on the radio in the 1982 Chevette sedan the night I drove it to the dealership for my parents to trade it for a brand new 1990 Corsica hatchback; the Chevette had replaced “my” car ~6 years prior.

#2
After 1990’s “Put Some Drive In Your Country” stalled at #28, 1991’s “Drift Off To Dream” sparked a new string of Top 10s when it peaked at #3. That was followed by 1991’s “Here’s A Quarter” (#2) & this song, which debuted 09/14/1991 & spent 20 weeks on the charts, 2 of those at #1, his 2nd chart topper. The string of Top 10s stretched to 5 with 1991-2’s “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’” (#2; with Marty Stuart) & 1992’s “Nothing Short Of Dying” (#4).

#3
Debuting 12/05/1992, this song spent 20 weeks on the charts & claimed #1 for 2 weeks in early 1993. It was the 3rd of 3 straight Top 10s, preceded by 1992’s “This One’s Gonna Hurt You” (#7; with Marty Stuart) & 1992’s “Lord Have Mercy On The Working Man” (#5). 1992-3’s “T-R-O-U-B-L-E” debuted a week after this single & peaked at #13 in early 1993. None of his 1993 releases cracked the Top 10, with “Looking Out For #1” coming closest, notching at #11.

#4
In 1994, he notched only 1 Top 10: “Foolish Pride” (#1). He kicked off 1995 with this song; it debuted 04/15/1995, spent 20 weeks on the charts & peaked at #2. The video is the 2nd in his trilogy of videos featuring him as Mac Singleton, a crippled US Army veteran; the 1st was “Anymore” & the 3rd was “If I Lost You”. The follow-up release, 1995’s “Sometimes She Forgets”, peaked at #7.

#5
Of 12 releases 1996-1999, only 2 reached the Top 15: 1996’s “More Than You’ll Ever Know” (#3) & 1996-7’s “Where Corn Don’t Grow” (#6). His 1st release in 2000 was “Best Of Intentions”, which claimed #1 & sparked a string of 4 straight Top 10s. This song was the 2nd; it debuted 12/16/2000 & spent 38 weeks on the country charts, 4 of those at its peaked of #2. The single crossed over & reached #33 on the Billboard Hot 100.

#6
This song hit the airwaves 01/12/2002, spent 21 weeks on the charts & peaked at #8, the last of 4 straight Top 10s & his last Top 10 to date. The 3rd song in the stretch of Top 10s was 2001’s “Love Of A Woman” (#2, 3 weeks). He has released 7 tunes since, none reaching the Top 20, though 2004’s “What Say You” (#21; with John Mellencamp) came closest.
